ASLA members go western in honor of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
By: Kay McAlpin, Lake Conroe columnist March 09, 2003
In celebration of the arrival of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the April Sound Ladies Association's luncheon was all western. All the ladies came decked out in their best western finery and looking quite spectacular. Three of these lovely ladies went home as winners.
Marie Adams looked stunning in her stylish all-black pantsuit with a rhinestone studded vest. Dianne Burghart wore a beautiful suede slacks and a jacket trimmed with long fringe. Luine Hancock looked wonderful in her matching skirt, vest and western hat in a very patriotic Texas flag print. All three of them put me to shame, but at least I had my boots on.
After the judging and prizes, Karin Hughes, introduced the guest performer for the day. Everyone who had heard Isaac Satterwhite before said he was great, but that was certainly an understatement. Having grown up around country and gospel music, he says he found his greatest source of inspiration in his grandfather who was a traveling gospel singer. Now he is pursing his own musical career and spends the weekends taking the stage at clubs and opry houses across Texas. At a recent competition Isaac took home top honors - without even knowing he was competing. In November he was named Texas Country Music Show Entertainer of the Month after a performance in Kirbyville where again he had no idea he was being judged.
He really wowed the ladies with his rich, pure voice and his charging personal style. He opened with "Waltz Across Texas" and performed for almost an hour singing a little old and a little new. He shook the rafters when he sang "Broken Lady" and was brought back for an encore to sing "Baby, I'm Amazed by You."
If you want to see him in person too, some of his upcoming "gigs" will be at the Texas Opry Jamboree in Magnolia on March 22 and April 19 and the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo on April 5.
Montgomery County Performing Arts Society will open its sixth annual Designer Showhouse to the public on Saturday, March 15- March 30. Tickets to the Showhouse are $10 per person. They can be purchased at the door or call (936) 582-4492 for further information.
The Opening Night Celebration at the Showhouse is Friday, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and reservations can be made by calling (936) 582-6903.
This beautiful 5,800 square New England/Cape Cod home is located on a deep-water cove on Lake Conroe's north shore in Longmire Estates. Builder, Wiley Anderson's eclectic is once again revealed in the warmth of the antique hardwoods used on the curving staircase and throughout the first floor, accented with slate and granite borders. State of the art appliances in the gourmet kitchen will delight any chef.
Local designers from Conroe, Houston, Huntsville and The Woodlands have been selected to use their skills to transform each room. MCPAS members will feature Bach's Bistro, serving lunch and desserts at the home as well as shopping in The Boutique, known for its collection of curios, gadgets, jewelry, handbags, home accessories and more.
To reach the Showhouse take I-45 North, taking a left on League Line Road. Take a left on Longmire Road, a right on Longmire Way and a left at the dead end/stop sign. Pass White Oak Ranch and continue straight ahead to the gates of Longmire Estates. Go through the gates and curve to the right, continue straight and curve around, the lake will be on your left. 12533 Longmire Lakeview West is on the left.
